Originally created for "The Enchanted Brush Exhibition X, Heroes Welcome" hosted by the University of Findlay and the Mazza Museum. The theme I selected comes from classic influences of modern high fantasy: the hero fighting the dragon. In researching where the idea of "dragon-slayer" originated, I came across quite a few myths written throughout the centuries. Many of these epic tales are not just battles with monsters but reflections of deeper symbolic meaning. The triumph of good over evil. The dangers of greed. The emptiness of fame and riches when the fate of death awaits all creatures. In my piece, I seek to illustrate the essence of what's woven throughout many of these tales- the symbolic quest of facing our greatest fears with heart and heroism.
