Description
The story of Jupiter and Ganymede is but a footnote in Ovid's Metamorphoses, but nevertheless became the subject of many artistic reinterpretations in the centuries since. The conceit of their story is not unlike that of Hades and Persephone, yet the latter pairing has been lavished with far more sympathetic retellings. With the fluidity of Greco-Roman interpretations, and the hunger of a Western audience to consume them, I do wonder what simple changes to this tale would be quickest to spoil their appetite.
