I suddenly felt the urge to bring this image to life after listening to the audiobook version of "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream." This horrific, dystopian short story was penned and narrated by the late Harlan Ellison, who wrote over 1700 science fiction stories and an episode of Star Trek. In "I Have No Mouth," Earth is now a desolate rock covered in a soulless honeycomb of wires and metal. In the center, 5 of the last remaining humans are kept alive and immortal by AM, a psychotic, sentient supercomputer who subjects the survivors to endless torture, mutilation and madness. One of the humans is crushed and turned into a jellified slug, but in my vision, he becomes a brain slithering inch by inch over a chasm, hoping to bring its painful existence to an end.
