She inhales and lights the coals. The tension of molecules vibrating faster, faster; she doesn’t exhale yet. She summons the great beasts to her imagining, and the smoke begins to weave around her. Then, like blood from a stone, like truth from a play on words, they appear. She exhales. The smoke takes form as long-fanged fish who, like her, need not breath the natural world around them, but rather, the curling intricacies of nebulous smoke and desires.
