Many years ago, 1990 I set out to paint one of my favorite characters from Literature, The Vampire Lestat. I hired a good friend who I felt was the best model for the beautiful but sinister vampire and I rented the costume from the University of Tennessee theater department. I also did research on the streets of Paris as well at the streets of New Orleans for the time period represented in the book. In addition I wrote to Anne Rice and her husband Stan after I completed the painting. Ann loved the painting, but at the time they were getting ready to produce the first move, Interview with the Vampire, so she asked me to name the piece something else other then just the Vampire Lestate. I think this might have been more protection for me since she had to sign papers for the movie. In any case I was pleased to have gotten a response from her. I still have that letter. This painting was sold to my sister Diane Hughes.
