About John Picacio
JOHN PICACIO is a three-time Hugo Award-winning illustrator of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. His art is noted for its diversity and range, often combining traditional drawing and painting with digital finishes. He has cover-illustrated major works by George R. R. Martin, Michael Moorcock, Harlan Ellison, Sheri S. Tepper, Robert Silverberg, Brenda Cooper, L.E. Modesitt, Jr., Dan Simmons, Joe R. Lansdale, Jeffrey Ford, Frederik Pohl, James Tiptree, Jr., Mark Chadbourn, and many more. He has produced cover artwork for franchises such as Star Trek and The X-Men.
His accolades include the World Fantasy Award, five Locus Awards, nine Chesley Awards, and two International Horror Guild Awards, all in the Artist category.
Clients include Ballantine/Del Rey, Bantam, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, Tor Books, Pyr, Subterranean Press, Scholastic, and many more.
He is the owner of Lone Boy, a media company housing his creator-owned art ventures -- including Loteria, which features new Picacio artworks that re-imagine the classic Mexican game of chance. His debut picture book, The Invisible Parade, co-authored with Leigh Bardugo, released in August 2025, and became a national bestseller in its first week.
