Painted for Magic: The Gathering's "Edge of Eternities". AD: Sarah Wassell The concept for this painting was quite abstract, I was asked to depict a figure wielding the heat death of the universe... which wasn't an easy task. I wanted the orb to look heavy, like its gravity had drawn all of the light and energy from the universe, and only a grey void remains in the outer reaches of the painting. To emphasize the "draining" of the energy, I used a photo-negative approach to the galaxies outside the orb, the stars becoming dark stains on the fading sky. This piece was a unique challenge for me, I don't usually work this abstract, but I had the most wonderful time crafting each prism.
