Description

Created for an exhibition with Indiana State University to raise awareness about the beneficial impact of bats on our local ecology. Strata features an aerial bat in flight, hunting a Luna Moth whilst constricted by a natural predator, the Gray Rat Snake. Strata generally refers to compositional layers of something. For example, geological Strata refers to the layers of sediment/soil/earth that geologists use to identify the age of fossils went excavated. In this case this piece touches upon one segment of overlapping strata or layers of the food web. Wildlife Referenced: California Myotis (Myotis californicus) + Rickett’s Big Footed Myotis (Myotis pilosus), Gray Rat Snake (Pantherophis spiloides), Luna Moth (Actias luna)
