Based on the Lunar New Year Zodiac animals, 2025 was the year of the Wood Snake. The Snake year is one of quiet reflection and a change from the Dragon year which is one of action. I depicted the snake shedding the dragon skin from the year previous and facing a new future of introspection. The snake is made of laser cut white and black watercolor papers with several colors of holographic vinyl all painted with watercolor and gouache, the skin is extremely fine Tengucho paper with a second laser cut detail paper below. The tree is engraved watercolor paper with individual cut plum blossoms. The background is made with cut paper, watercolor, gouache, silk, cherry wood, padauk wood, shell veneer and 24K gold leaf.
